The true cost of ukulele...
As with all boutique builders I use the finest materials to build my ukulele. This means selecting the top 2% of commercially logged timber and because it is from the top there is always a premium to pay. Coupled with this there is 20 hours and more labour in each ukulele with nearly 50% of this time spent hand sanding and finishing... After much soul searching I am forced by the high price of shipping and dwindling availability to cease offering koa and m ahogany as standard building materials. I will be therefore switching from Hawaiian Koa to Tasmanian Blackwood, from Mahogany to English Cherry and Scottish Alder. Koa and Mahogany for bodies will be available for tenores at a £100/$160 premium upgrade and £50/$80 upgrade for sopranos: I can no longer subsidise these specie from my depleting stocks. |
