Yewkulele - the Englishman's choice:This little soprano ukulele is an all Welsh yew body with a Brazilian mahogany neck and ebony fingerboard. I've named this line of ukulele - Yewkulele! The contrasts and subtleties of this instrument are reflected in the sound - deep and moody. This is achieved because yew, although it behaves like a hardwood, is actually a softwood. In effect, the whole body is behaving like a spruce sound board! I've made a number of yewkule in concert and soprano form and they have all turned out crackers. George Hinchliffe of The Ukulele Orchestra Of great Britain plays a soprano yewkulele. |
